Natural Burial
Natural Burial is an alternate deposition to traditional burial options. Natural Burials are currently offered by:
Bunurong Memorial Park in the Murrun Naroon Natural Burial section, located in a tranquil remote part of the Bunurong Memorial Park.
and
Gippsland Memorial Park in the ‘Whispering Gums’ Natural Burial Section.
Natural burials, also known as ‘green burials’, are quickly becoming a popular alternative among our community. Materials used for traditional coffins are usually made out of non-biodegradable materials, meaning that they cannot be broken down by the action of living organisms.
However, at a natural burial site, all materials that are used for a coffin or casket are biodegradable, ensuring these can be broken down by bacteria and living organisms.
Not only are natural burials more environmentally friendly, but they give people the ability to reconnect with the earth naturally and gently. This ensures there is minimal impact on the surrounding native bushland, while still providing loved ones with a beautiful place to remember.

Natural Burial Differences

Natural burial requires the body to be placed in an ‘enviro casket’ as oppose to traditional caskets, the grave depth is shallower allowing the body to naturally breakdown overtime and return to mother earth.
Enviro Caskets
Enviro Caskets are required for Natural Burials. Enviro caskets may be wicker construction (as pictured) or be of wood construction but contain no glue or metals.
